Prediction For Tonight

Clinton will win both Texas and Ohio. Whether they were correct or not, her attacks on him over the weekend and especially yesterday were effective and will cause people to question his ability to withstand the Republican assaults. It will be a good night for Hillary, but not enough to get her back into the race in a manner that will carry her the seven weeks until Pennsylvania. Things are going to get harder for Obama. Unless, of course, he debuts a brilliant speech tonight, transcending the points he's already made.

because your Super Bowl predictions were so spot-on... :)~

mine: OH & RI go to Clinton; TX & VT go to Obama; Clinton doesn't win by the double digits she needs to catch up to Obama; they end the night in the exact same place they started: Obama leading by approx. 150 delegates.
I could stop here, but hell, I'm having fun playing political analyst so...
Obama goes on to win the Wyoming caucuses & Mississipi primary this month, Clinton runs out of money before PA, which is a long 7 weeks away. (sounds smart in my head lol)

I find both of your hypotheses intriguing and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Seriously, though, how long do you think she's gonna stay in the race, regardless of how many states she manages to win (or not) today?

I would be seriously surprised if Clinton dropped out merely based on losing some more states tonight (losing 11 in a row hasn't stopped her). As I stated, it would have to be financial - she won't be able to hang on for almost 2 months until PA. He hasn't released his numbers yet, but it's $50M+ in Feb (in large part due to B&N ha ha).

While a part of me would love it if she was out before month's end (it would be nice to focus on McCain already!), I am also aware that it is early in the primary season (it feels like it's been forever, but we're only in month 3) and all voters should have a say. My only problem with her staying in much longer is the superficial "damage" she is doing to Obama; the fear/smear campaign she's running now (however lacking in substance) will only serve to provide Republicans with fodder. While she is busy "throwing the kitchen sink" at him to win at all costs (including the party) - Obama is running a smart campaign with the underlying principle that we NEED a democratic president next year!

And we don't have the heart to tell him that he dropped out. It's hard to find "Dodd 2008" button these days.

I think Clinton could lose the rest of the states until the convention, and she still won't drop out. She's been after this nomination for so long that she won't throw in the towel until the party actually nominates someone else. And tells her to leave. Sternly.

I agree with Nilda, though - they'll split today (which it looks like they're going to do at 8:25 tonight), and move on to past this "do or die" primary day in the same exact place. And, because it works, she'll keep hammering away at Obama with negative campaigning, which will only help McCain. Nice.
