Super Tuesday

Here's what we learned from Super Tuesday (note: all data not plagiarized from the internet comes directly out of my ass):

The Democrats came out to vote in far greater numbers than the Republicans. The total votes cast among the GOP was 8,370,022. Compared to the 14,622,822 votes among the Democratic primaries, the Democrat race drew 76% more voters than the Republican race. This reflects the dissatisfaction that many Republicans feel towards all of the candidates. Perhaps the only candidate capable of galvanizing the base is Hillary Clinton. But even then, who knows if McCain would go after her the way Bush went after Bill.

Obama and Clinton received equal numbers of votes. Obama received 7,294,851 votes (49.8%), while Clinton received 7,347,971 votes (50.2%). Among all the millions of voters, that's a difference of 53,120 votes. That's less than .01%. For all the talk about winners and losers, it's a dead heat, and the Democrats are split down the middle.

Finally, here's my response to the argument that you should support Clinton because America is not ready to vote for a black man:
  1. That's not true, as proven by Iowa and the fact that most of Obama's support has come from white men.
  2. People who won't vote for a black man probably won't vote for a woman, either, so that the argument would not even favor Hillary.
  3. As much as it tries to blame the racism of others, this argument perpetuates the racism that the Obama campaign is trying to combat. Not voting for Obama because others have a problem with his race, is the same as not voting for Obama because of his race.

Thank you for your kind words of support and generous donations. It's hard work hosting the most important blog in the country.

This is one of the most exciting and inspiring elections ever!! I'm just excited to be witnessing it firsthand.

But let's not forget Obama has won the most states and most pledged delegates! Nevertheless, Clinton has more superdelegates (those are the best for her to have because they can always change their minds and support Obama at the convention) so she's in the lead with 87 (super)delegates. It just goes to show how much of this nation wants to believe we can put our kids through college, buy a first home, and not declare backruptcy over healthcare bills that insurance won't cover... =)

by the way, you're a bit behind...
shouldn't there be blog entries about Romney dropping out, Clinton lending herself $5M, Obama raising $6M since Tuesday, etc.? I mean for being the Most Important Blog in the Country and all....

:)~

I have nothing against Obama for being black. But his being Hawaiian is unacceptable. Those fat bastards have been mooching off the mainland for long enough.

And when are they going to let those plane crash survivors off the island?? Jack and Kate have suffered long enough. 50th state my ass!!

In a poll of 7 registered Republicans today, all 7 said they would vote for Clinton over McCain and McCain over Obama. They said the only circumstance in which they would vote for Obama is if he were on the ticket as Clinton's VP (3 replied "when hell freezes over"). Reporting from New York Law School...Abrevaya ..out!

Let me be the first registered Republican to set you straight, then, Harley. Obama over McCain, McCain over Hillary. Hillary over my dead body.

And there are many others like me.

Havent met the otehrs like you yet!! Who is this, by the way???

The newest Time poll shows Obama winning the GE over McCain:
Time poll (Feb 1-4)
Obama 48 (+7)
McCain 41

Clinton 46 (0)
McCain 46

To clarify, the reason Republicans want Clinton to win the nomination is because they know how much the Republican party despises her and will increase their chances of winning the general election - hence Rush Limbaugh's "Keep Her In It So We Can Win It" campaign.
www.rushlimbaugh.com

On NPR today, President Bush’s chief political strategist Matthew Dowd said, “The other thing that I think John McCain has going for him is if Hillary Clinton wins the nomination I know there’s a lot of conservatives out there that said they wouldn’t vote or would vote for her but I think she’s the most unifying force for John McCain out there right now, not himself.” He went on to say later in the interview, “I think if you gave the strategists and people around John McCain some truth serum and asked them to say who they want to run against, in a minute they’d say Senator Hillary Clinton. They think that she’s polarizing; she’d motivate and unite the base of the Republican Party. She’s not a generational difference and a change of a figure, she’s a bit of throwback to the past, like to a degree he is. Against Senator Obama it’s a much more difficult task.

I mean we've got republicansforobama.org for goodness sake, what does that say?

To clarify, the Republicans I polled said that they would vote for Clinton over McCain in the actual ELECTION!!!

"I like Hillary. I think she’d make the best president. I think [Barack]'s a good man. I think he’s altruistic. I think he’s smart. I think at some point he can be a great leader. I just don’t think it’s now.”

I searched all over CNN & MSNBC, but I couldn't find a thing about what Paris Hilton had to say about the election... dammit!

This once again proves that this is The Most Important Blog In The Country.

Wait a minute, Irene is a Republican?!?!? Does Jeremy know about this??

DorothyMantooth said...

Ha! It's one of many things that makes our relationship so spicy!

But perhaps I've said too much...

Anonymous said...

Oh! "Dorothy Mantooth" = Irene. Really? A Republican? xoxo

TheMediaDude said...

Hillary is polarizing, but she's already been through the Republican ringer. Who knows what dirt they'll find on Obama? Who knows how he'll deal with it? There's the devil-you-know feeling toward Hillary.

Too much zeal over one candidate is not healthy. It fragments the party before we even get to the real enemy (Republicans, and now Irene).

To all the Obamaites, please calm down. It reminds me of the fervor over CLinton back in '92when HE was the "change" canditate.

I never have nor ever will care what Rush Limbaugh says.

Jack McFarland, is that you?

Boywonderesq said...

No, this is Jesus. I'm voting for Obama.

Irene, you & I know the deal.
The children of immigrant(s) from Soviet, Socialist or Communist countries, i.e. Ukraine, Cuba, etc. are more likely to be registered Republicans like their parents (unless of course, they rebel ,-)

Politics is usually a big deal in their homes growing up and Democrats are seen as too close to Socialists for comfort. Big government is a no-no. I was a Reagan trickle down baby and now I'm an Obama mama - my dad must be freaking out up there! LOL =)

DorothyMantooth said...

Absolutely, true, Nil! My folks still think Reagan was the wonderfullest thing since sliced bread (actually, I'm not sure they even had sliced bread where we were born, did they? Heee!), and there's nothing I can do to disabuse them of that notion. There's nothing I can do to explain to them why I've voted Democrat in the last few presidential elections 'cause I think there's no way for them to divorce any of the candidates from a blanket "not a Republican" identity. Just like I think it's tough, maybe, for some folks -- and I totally don't necessarily mean you, Harley! -- Barack from his "not a woman" identity.

For me, though, Hillary just represents so much more of the ... "politics as usual," I guess, that I'd rather vote for someone who I think really can effect a change that can galvanize the nation, rather than fragmenting it any further.

DorothyMantooth said...

Grrrr! One of those paragraphs is missing a "to divorce." (I'll leave it to y'all to figure out which one!) ;)

Also? Most! Comments! EVAR!

Wow, I just stumbled across this blog, and this looks like the Most Important Blog In the Country. I must comment.

Two observations (please feel free to use your favorite Southern accent (something like Eli's, more than Peyton's) when reading aloud):

1. No self-respecting Republican (and I don't think of Ann Coulter as "self-respecting") would get in the voting booth and actually vote Hillary over any Republican on the ballot, even if they think that the Republican candidate isn't "Republican" enough. Every republican I've spoken to down here has said that, if pressed, they would consider voting Obama but would NEVER vote for Hillary.

2. Is Irene really a Republican, or does she just have a thing for really old white guys?

Anonymous said...

I don't know who that commenter is, but s/he is funny and smart too!! LOL

Anonymous said...

Just a fast fact from the VA primary: Republicans constituted 8%of the voters in the Democratic primary, Obama won 70% of those votes (Clinton received 26%). -CNN

DorothyMantooth said...

Hooray new commenter!!

I don't know about all "really old white guys," but I like the cut of your jib, Southern Jew!

Anonymous said...

Fair enough - some of those guys just have a bit too much "old" or not enough "white". Fortunately for me, I'm plenty white and only getting older.

So now that my firm has agreed to pay me to do a whole bunch of nothing and - for the time being - expects very little from me, I have plenty of time to catch up on the daily ruminations and random thoughts of the Boy Wonder and will be commenting appropriately. It's almost like a virtual 3A. I have fives on the rolling office chair.

Ah, you're only "really" white when you dance, darlin'!
